Objectives of EuroSpaceward for year 2009/10 and Review of 2008/07 Print E-mail

• Measurable awareness of EuroSpaceward and its activities among stakeholders and the European space community.

Review 2008/07: cross references to EuroSpaceward as well as discussion of its activities and messages have demonstrably increased in the general public during the past year. Feedback to the conferences hosted has come from BBC News, The Sunday Times and other more regional media. Exhibition at CosmoCaixa Barcelona has been opened in October 2008.

Further outreach activities are envisioned in 2009/10, e.g. promotion at Paris Air and Space Show in June 2009.

• Measurable impact at European universities, engineering schools and cooperation partners

Review 2008/07: impact has been rather weak at universities and engineering schools in 2008 in comparison to achieved outreach during previous year. 2007 has seen the participation of TU Munich, UPC Barcelona, University of Karlsruhe, Université Catholique de Louvain, Université de Liège, University of Luxembourg, University of Saskatchewan and International Space University.

Focus in 2009/10 will be on addressing European aerospace student associations like EUROAVIA and Pegasus and its member organizations.

• Growing membership base

Review 2008/07: though still on a double-digit level numbers of EuroSpaceward memberships have almost doubled between 2007 and 2008.

Additional services and incentives in 2009/10 should help to further increase the membership base.

• Acquisition of further grants and scientific funds to broaden outreach and stimulate new research projects related to EuroSpaceward’s mission

Review 2008/07: research grants awarded have been used to organize scientific conferences in Luxembourg. In this context EuroSpaceward would like to acknowledge the outstanding support given by the Fond National de la Recherche FNR of Luxembourg. Other funds have been applied for educational purposes in schools, e.g. children’s drawing contest.

In 2009/10 we are aiming at unleashing industrial sponsorship as well in order to render support for the development of super strong carbon nanotube fibres. Contacts with European elevator producers have been already established. In addition European carbon nanotube producers and laser equipment manufacturers will be encompassed.
